Grazie al sequenziamento di 7.666 profili genetici del coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, un team di ricerca anglo-francese \u00e8 giunto alla conclusione che il patogeno sia originato tra il 6 ottobre e l'11 dicembre 2019, inoltre \u00e8 stata notata la presenza di mutazioni che suggeriscono un adattamento all'uomo. Questi risultati, secondo il virologo Guido Silvestri, hanno importanti implicazioni, sia sui dati dell'epidemia che sulla perdita di virulenza del SARS-CoV-2.
